Grief Rituals
Honouring Loss, Love, and the Sorrows of Our World
Inspired by the Five Gateways of Grief described by Francis Weller, these gatherings offer a compassionate community space to acknowledge personal, ancestral, and Earth grief.
What to expect?
Grief is a natural response to loving and caring deeply about life. Yet in our culture there are few places where grief can be expressed and witnessed in community. These ritual spaces welcome the many ways grief moves through us, from personal loss, to the parts of ourselves that were never fully welcomed, to the wider sorrows we feel for our world.
One recent gathering, Earth Sorrow, invited people to come together outdoors to explore our relationship with the natural world while naming and expressing grief for the loss of habitats and the pollution of our rivers. Through playfulness, sounding, song, stillness, movement, and shared words, we honoured both our love for the Earth and the grief many of us carry for what is being lost.
I plan to offer these grief ritual spaces at least twice a year within my local community, and they are also available to book for groups, organisations, and communities who wish to explore grief in a held and supportive way.
When grief is shared, it reminds us that we are not alone, and that beneath our sorrow lives a deep love for the world and for one another. 🌿
